Last May, OFITECO participated in the national call for financial aid, corresponding to subprogram INNPACTO of the Science and Innovation Ministry, with two R & D projects: XLIDE and TIC-PRESAS.

With a view to achieving the highest scientific level of development for the projects, OFITECO counts on the support of prestigious research institutions that supplement the capabilities of OFITECO’s researchers.

The 36-month project named XLIDE, which has a budget of more than 1 million Euros, develops tools for the analysis of slope stability with potential risk to critical infrastructures. The main objective of the project is the development of an innovative tool which would allow the analysis and control of safety at critical infrastructures, and the stability of their surrounding slopes.

This Project, which is directed and coordinated by OFITECO, involves a partnership with the International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), the Department of Dams and the group of Mathematical Methods in Engineering of the Technical University of Madrid, and the Institute of Geomatics (IG). The Administrator of Railway Infrastructures (ADIF), Hydrographic Confederation of the Ebro (CHE) and Leica Geosystem will take part, as well.

The 30-month project, named TIC-PRESAS, which has almost a 1 million Euro budget, will develop an intensive system of advanced information and communication technologies for the integrated management of the risk and safety of dams and reservoirs. The main objective of the project is to design, develop and validate a new tool for obtaining, managing and analyzing the necessary information to monitor dams, which would provide a continual assessment to their administrators and end-users and would allow them to follow the operation of the dam through a web page.

This OFITECO-led project involves a partnership with the Institute for the Application of Advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ITACA). The Hydrographic Confederation of the Júcar (CHJ) will take part, as well.

Through these projects, OFITECO will address one of its main 2011 challenges related to the development of R&D projects financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, which will allow it to keep advancing in knowledge and to improve its services and its market, which translates into a more competitive company.
